August was gone in a heartbeat, but I can’t say goodbye to summer without posting a review of my birthday celebration at one of Chicago’s most buzzed-about new attractions, inspired by the hit international TV show THE CUBE.
According to the official show description, THE CUBE “follows contestant pairs who must demonstrate skill, nerve and determination as they endure seemingly simple physical and mental tasks – all while confined in ‘The Cube,’ an intimidating glass box with its own mind and attitude, in the hope of winning a major cash prize. Working on their own or as a team, each pair has nine lives to complete seven games that are worth an increasing amount of money as they inch closer to taking home the $250,000 jackpot.”
After London and Manchester, THE CUBE made its international debut in Chicago. I got the chance to familiarize myself with the concept at a recent media event, which happily coincided with my birthday 🙂
The competition unfolds in teams of four, and players take on seven games, with spectators watching their every move. My guest and I were paired with another couple and we moved from cube to cube quickly, as directed via THE CUBE app. Help was available at every step of the process, with members of staff providing instructions and answering questions in a pleasant and upbeat manner.
After we were done playing, it was time to eat 🙂 THE CUBE Chicago menu features elevated sharing plates that are perfect for social dining, and the space is gorgeous, with stunning views of Michigan Ave, elegant table setting, three mixologist-led bars. We enjoyed a variety of mocktails, my favorite being Piña Nolada, a tropical alcohol-free twist on the classic Piña Colada, combining pineapple, coconut, and fresh lime.

I had an amazing time celebrating my birthday at THE CUBE Chicago, and I recommend this location if you’re looking for a fun, unique, and interactive experience. The challenges were thoughtfully curated and well explained, and the food was delicious. A night out in the city, complete with excellent bites and sips, and marvelous entertainment.
I am still dreaming of their nachos and Piña Nolada 🙂
