Naked Nutrition Casein review

shared by MickyN | Leave a Comment

Spring is here, and so are my renewed and re-imagined fitness goals 🙂 I am happy to share that I have started strength training, and I am feeling great! After a lot of trial and error, I have found the best timeframe to exercise at the local gym, which works for me and my daily schedule. I run laps most days and I attend strength training classes two times a day, two days a week. Overall, I am delighted with the improvements in my energy levels and my overall well-being.

My interest in strength training has also required diet changes to support my body’s protein needs. Thankfully, Naked Nutrition is always an excellent choice when it comes to clean, healthy, functional products that work. I was recently invited to try out their Micellar Casein Protein Powder. Similar to my previous collaborations with Naked Nutrition (covered here, here, here and here), this was an amazing opportunity for me to try out a superlative quality product, with an exceptional nutritional profile.

  • Casein vs whey

According to info posted on the Naked Nutrition website, cow’s milk protein “is made of casein and whey protein. Both casein and whey can be found in dairy foods. Casein is the part of the protein that is used to create more solid foods like cheese, and the whey protein is water-soluble and is more of a liquid consistency.” Both casein and whey “are sources of high-quality protein, both provide important amino acids, and both are naturally found in cow’s milk. But each protein digests differently in the body and plays different roles in food science.”

One excellent advantage of casein is that it digests slower than whey. Whey protein “is fast-digesting and promotes muscle recovery immediately after a workout. Micellar casein is slow-digesting. It increases satiety and keeps your muscles nourished for several hours.” Subsequently, nutrition experts highly recommend the consumption of casein before bedtime. The slow digestion process “provides your muscles with a steady supply of amino acids to promote repair and growth as you sleep.” You can also take it after a workout if you need a slow release of protein to fuel your body.

For additional detailed information on casein, you are welcome to check out this Naked Nutrition article.

  • Advantages of Naked Casein

Naked Casein contains only one ingredient, micellar casein sourced from US farms, and its data sheet is impressive:

✅100% pure slow-digesting micellar casein

✅26 grams of protein per serving

✅Gluten-free, soy-free, and GMO-free

✅No additives and no artificial sweeteners

✅No acid or bleach processing

  • Uses of Naked Casein

Naked Casein is a great option for those who are looking to build muscle or to prevent muscle breakdown. Since it is a slow absorbing protein, experts also recommend adding it to meal replacement shakes, as a steady source of energy throughout the day. Naked Casein does not contain any type of lecithin to add solubility, therefore you may need to use a blender for mixing.

Here’s a snapshot of how you should take casein, according to Naked Nutrition experts:

  • When: Add our casein protein to protein shakes, smoothie bowls, and baking. Best used during the day, after a workout, or before bed.
  • Blend: Mix two scoops into 6-10oz of milk or your favorite beverage. Add fruits or your favorite ingredients for taste as Naked Casein is unflavored.
  • Pair With: Add a scoop of Naked PB for more protein and a tasty peanut flavor or combine with Naked Whey for improved protein synthesis.

I have found Naked Casein to be very easy to blend in our high performance blender, and I usually make shakes with it, using 2 scoops of casein, 2 bananas, a few other fruits on hand, milk, and sometimes oats. In addition to this daily shake, I have been experimenting with Naked Casein in desserts such as the one pictured below, a creamy quinoa pudding with fresh mango, sour cherry sauce, and mint.

Using the basic 1-to-2 quinoa-to-milk ratio, I boil the quinoa in milk until cooked (about 15 – 20 minutes), then I add 1 scoop of Naked Casein, stir with a spoon until homogenized, and add more milk as per personal preference and/or mood of the moment, lol (more for creamier texture, less for firmer texture). In my experience, the casein powder blends easily even without a professional blender:

I don’t add any sugar to my quinoa pudding because I rely on the toppings to satisfy my sweet tooth. Here for example, I used mango and honey-sweetened sour cherry sauce, but you can use any topping(s) you have available and/or you prefer.

Creamy and luscious, with a vibrant yet subtle sweetness, this pudding tastes amazing, and I love that it is also protein-packed, thanks to the addition of Naked Casein. You can taste the “milkiness” of casein, but its flavor is not overpowering.

A delicious and functional dessert, that helps me with my strength training:

Similar to the other Naked Nutrition products I have tried, Naked Casein supports my fitness goals in a clean, healthy, and delicious fashion. I love that this product is sourced from US farms and is made to the same high standards I have come to expect from this brand. I will continue to use Naked Casein to support my training regimen, and I highly recommend it.
