Happy Friday, dear friends 🙂 As you can see, I am welcoming the weekend with scrumptious ice cream topped with seasonal fruits and plentiful sunshine.
Did you know that July is National Blueberry Month, but also National Ice Cream Month? The third Sunday of July is also National Ice Cream Day – coming up this Sunday, July 21. (You are welcome to check out my previous references to National Ice Cream Day and Month here and here)

I have no problem celebrating both blueberries and ice cream all year-round, lol, but I must admit that they seem to taste better in the summer, when the sun is up, and my soul is a bundle of lightness.

Here are some interesting facts on the topic, courtesy of the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA):
- National Ice Cream Month and National Ice Cream Day were established through presidential proclamation, in 1984.
- Most US ice cream companies are family owned and have been in operation for over 50 years.
- The average US consumer eats roughly 20 pounds of ice cream each year, or about 4 gallons.
- According to a recent survey conducted by IDFA and Morning Consult, vanilla is the most popular flavor, with 38% of respondents ranking it No.1. Chocolate came in second (32%), strawberry third (25%), and cookie dough and butter pecan tied for the No. 4 spot.

For thorough information on a variety of food celebrations, I recommend National Today, a viral holiday website whose founders believe that nothing beats a day of celebration – except 365 of them! Their goal is to gather special holidays and moments from around the world and to help everyone celebrate with events, helpful tips, discounts, deals, and plenty of fun. National Today is truly universal in scope, and I enjoy its cosmopolitan appeal, clean graphics, and wide range of information provided. I wrote about them before, and you are welcome to check out my review here and their account of National Ice Cream Day here.

From a bowl and heavy-handed on chocolate rather than vanilla – this is how I usually eat ice cream
