Brunch is always a good idea – especially if it involves waffle and French toast flights 🤤
Happy Friday and Happy International Women’s Day, dear friends 🙂 Do your weekend plans involve brunch? If so, then I highly recommend you check out Chicago Waffles in the South Loop.
Winner of Time Out Chicago’s 2012 “Eat Out” award for “Best New Breakfast Place,” Chicago Waffles offer an upscale take on breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Their menu showcases a wide range of dishes, from waffles to burgers, and from omelettes to pancakes and sandwiches. They also offer hand-crafted cocktails, which have elicited a lot of attention from Chicago’s celebrities, influencers, and TV & radio stations.
Chicago Waffles have 4 locations: South Loop, West Loop, Oak Park, and Willowbrook. Since I had visited the Oak Park location before, I was super excited to get the invite to their South Loop restaurant. I was looking forward to indulging in their magical waffles again – so off to brunch we went!
Chicago Waffles South Loop boasts a brightly colored, modern interior that is inviting and Instagram-worthy.

As with their other locations, the South Loop menu offers an extensive range of exciting, tantalizing dishes, which you can check out here. With so many options available and customizable (gluten-free counterparts are available upon request), finding something that appeals to you is a certainty, imo 🙂
It was a cold day in downtown Chicago, and I was freezing cold, so picking up a hot beverage was a necessity. I chose mocha made with Julius Meinl coffee, which exhibited delicious notes of caramel and chocolate, and subtle amber hues. The experience was off to a great start!

Since I have a very sweet tooth, I naturally gravitate towards the dessert options on any menu I come across, lol From this perspective, the Chicago Waffles offerings were pure satisfaction and deliciousness 🤤 I highly recommend their waffle flight (Red Velvet, Chocolate, Liege, and Green Tea waffles with strawberry, banana, hazelnut chocolate, and warm syrup) and their French toast flight (Very Berry, Cinnamon Swirl, and Red Velvet French toasts)

Chicago Waffles French Toast flight
Be they enjoyed on their own or as a part of a flight, Chicago Waffles’ Red Velvet waffles (vanilla cream cheese, fresh strawberries, candied walnuts, and chocolate sauce) is an incredible dish, a must-try in my book, and a brunch classic executed to perfection:

The blend of candied walnuts & freshly whipped cream cheese is one of the best brunch topping combos I have tasted in awhile:

If you’re looking for a delicious savory option, I recommend the Shakshuka with feta found on the “Skillets” section of the menu, which comes with 3 poached eggs “swimming” in a comforting, heartwarming tomato sauce, with feta on top, and hummus and toast on the side.

A special mention must also be made about the generously-sized Steak Omelette, made with skirt steak, onions, red peppers, mushrooms, and cheese, and served with Chicago Waffles’ signature red potatoes, and a choice of toast, English muffin, or pancakes. Nourishing and filling, this omelette was perfect to enjoy in the blistering cold.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Chicago Waffles in the South Loop, and I look forward to visiting again in the future. The plethora of options, the delicious freshness of the dishes, and the pleasant comfortable vibes make this location one of the very best for brunching, a personal favorite standing out from the myriad of options on the Chicago dining scene.
