Food as an experience, food as love, food as belonging. Oftentimes, I think of food as all these, and I marvel at the multiplicity of meanings involved in a restaurant dining experience. What drives us in? What makes us return? There are many delicious reasons to come back to Amerikas, a Nuevo Latino restaurant which showcases the melting pot concept of American culture and cuisine in a diverse menu of vibrant flavors, global influences, and exciting combinations of mouthwatering seasonal ingredients.
As stated on Amerikas website, “People from around the world came to make America to make it their home, bringing and sharing their native cultures, flavors and foods. American cuisine is hard to define for that very reason.” Amerikas’ mission “is all about embracing all the flavors of our very melting pot called America. As we continue to incorporate cultures into our own, the tastes we love will evolve to reflect the changing world.” A wonderful statement of cultures, values, and culinary pursuits!
I visited Amerikas for lunch recently, and as I went inside, I marveled at the welcoming interior, beautified by the heartwarming sun. The place was packed (always a good sign!), and the cozy vibes were accentuated by colorful murals, earthy wood grains, and an abundance of natural light. The soothing dynamic of the interior decoration set the mood and the expectations. We couldn’t wait for our global culinary experience to begin!
Once my guest and I were seated and the mocktails arrived, the wait time for food was short, and we were in for a feast!
Amerikas’ virtuoso breakfast/lunch menu – comprising a variety of egg dishes, soups and salads, tacos, enchiladas, sandwiches, as well as churros, hot and cold beverages, and cocktails – is an insightful demonstration of compelling culinary artistry, vision, and enthusiasm. How many reasons to return to Amerikas? Quite a few:
Comforting Chilaquiles with tortilla chips satisfyingly swimming in salsa verde, crema fresca and queso fresco, beautifully joined by black beans…
Eggs Benedict adorned by luscious hollandaise and roasted potatoes kissed by chorizo and serrano peppers…
Chicken Enchiladas satisfyingly packed with green salsa, chihuahua cheese, onions, cilantro, and rice…
French Toast decadently engulfed in dulce de leche you wish you could bathe in (!), with plentiful bananas, strawberries, almonds, and whipped cream…
For dessert, I thoroughly enjoyed Amerikas’ Dragon Fruit Cheesecake, decorated with satisfying golden crisps and delicate edible flowers:
A special mention must be made about Amerikas’ veggie tacos. Featuring cauliflower, carrots, huajillo, pineapple, cilantro, and onion, these tacos exhibited a compelling balance of spicy sweetness and savoriness. I fell in love with the exuberant blend of cauliflower florets, julienned carrots, and diced pineapple, joined by herbaceous cilantro, dancing on the palate.
As I left, I couldn’t resist the locally famous Miche-Colate (hot chocolate topped with homemade churro, marshmallows, cookie, sprinkles, and a caramel drizzle), and I ordered it to-go. One last sweet treat to make facing the cold weather outside more bearable!
You can order online from Amerikas’ menu here. You can also check out their website to find info on opening hours and special dishes and promotions.
I had an amazing time dining at Amerikas, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. A local restaurant with a cosmopolitan approach, Amerikas is sure to satisfy a diversity of tastes and preferences thanks to its eclectic vision and universal appeal. When heart and soul unite with artistry and passion, the result can be summed up succinctly: a must-try. Absolutely, certainly, definitely, a resounding yes 🙂
