Let’s fire up the grill, shall we? 🙌 I’m celebrating the start of the grilling season with this scrumptious vegan sandwich loaded with garlicky veggie goodness, built on delicious bread, and inspired by grilling pros. I am delighted to announce my collaboration with La Brea Bakery and Mark Anderson & Ryan Fey aka The Grill Dads for a spectacular summer of amazing grilling 😀
I wrote about La Brea Bakery before, and I am excited and inspired by our ongoing partnership, as a home baker and as a consumer. La Brea Bakery was born in 1989, when the pastry chefs at Campanile Restaurant in Los Angeles could not find artisan bread good enough for the restaurant. Excited about the envisioned opportunities, the chefs “spent a year crafting the perfect recipe, creating bread with a caramelized, golden crust, soft inside and rustic appearance. The signature recipe resulted in such delicious artisan bread that they opened La Brea Bakery on La Brea Avenue.”
Nowadays, La Brea Bakery enjoys nationwide distribution, and its reputation as an excellent purveyor and producer of quality breads is well established.
I recently tried La Brea Bakery’s Take & Bake Twin Pack French Baguette, as part of my aforementioned summer grilling campaign collaboration. As is the case with all La Brea Bakery bakes, these demi baguettes are non-GMO certified and vegan, and have no artificial additives or preservatives.
To make my vegan sandwich, I drew inspiration from The Grill Dads’ Super Duper Steak Sammy recipe. I used grilled veggies in lieu of flank steak, and I packed the sandwich with homegrown microgreens, which were also served as a salad, with avocado and grilled corn.
The Grill Dads’ mojo de ajo sauce was a magical discovery. Made of garlic cloves in olive oil placed in a pan inside the grill to cook until golden, then blended with orange, grapefruit, and lime juices, oregano, and salt and pepper until smooth, this sauce was the perfect companion to the wholesome La Brea Bakery Take & Bake French Baguette and to the veggies.
La Brea Bakery Take & Bake breads are perfect for grilling because they are parbaked, which means that they finish cooking on the grill, holding in the moisture, and not drying out like fully baked breads. The char from grilling creates pockets of deliciousness that hold the sauce in, and hold up to the sauce, and the result is a fantastic blend of satisfying flavors and textures. Bite into this scrumptious grilled baguette, and you’ll want to use it again and again. This bread is the best 🤤
