Have you ever felt you needed a touch of sparkle in your life? After the past 2 years, I can definitely say answer yes to this question. There is only so much you can experience when you isolate yourself from the rest of the world for long periods of time, and when you cook the same recipes, over and over again. After awhile, you realize something has to change. You need something new, fresh, exciting – perhaps an ingredient? I have been lucky to come across some amazing businesses during the pandemic, and I have felt very fortunate to be able to try their products and to recommend them to my readers. Today, I am recommending Barnabas Gold, who have contacted me recently and have offered to send me some of their products to review.
Barnabas Gold is a producer of different karats and formats of genuine gold leaf that has been in the gold leaf business for over 20 years. They manufacture a wide range of gold products between 18k – 24k including Gold Flakes for Drinks, Edible Gold Flakes, Edible Gold Leaf Sheets, and Gold Leaf Sheets. Alongside their gold range, they also offer Edible Silver Sheets and Silver Leaf Sheets. For this review I received the following products, all edible: 23.75k Genuine Gold Leaf in a pack, Genuine Silver Leaf in a pack, and 23.75k Genuine Gold Flakes.
I have worked with edible gold before, but all my past explorations pale by comparison to what I have experienced working with Barnabas Gold products, which I used in various preparations, all sweet. One stunning application of edible gold was the one below, where I made delicious pancakes for an Instagram cooking challenge.
Here you have light and fluffy pancakes with added flaxseed meal and dandelion petals (hence the golden color), gently splashed with lilac syrup, served with rose petal preserve, chopped pistachio, and bee pollen, with Barnabas Gold gold flakes carefully placed on top, for an added touch of luxury. Cutting through the aromatic sweetness was an invigorating dandelion tea, perfect to cleanse the palate, in anticipation of the next scrumptious bite.
A picture of bliss:
Equally impressive has been using Barnabas Gold edible gold flakes to remake my Turkish delight truffles.
In its original formulation, the recipe is rather unassuming, and the resulting truffles (made out of leftover cookies, melted Turkish delight, Dutch process cocoa or carob, vanilla extract, and lemon juice) look deliciously rustic. I did not have cranberries in the pantry, so I replaced them with ground pecans. I am happy to report the truffles turned out super delicious in this reformulation, thanks in part to the lemon juice cutting through the sweetness of the Turkish delight beautifully.
Equally important and fascinating, covering some of the truffles in chocolate and adding gentle touches of edible gold on all of them has elevated these humble sweet treats to stratospheric heights!
Don’t they look beautiful and precious?
A mesmerizing sight:

I had a lot of fun experimenting with Barnabas Gold edible gold products, and I cannot recommend them enough for their vibrancy, authenticity, and overall pizzazz. Whether you’re looking for your next “wow” at the family dinner table or are contemplating hosting complex weekend parties, this quality edible gold raises to the occasions to provide an infinite touch of breathtaking sparkle which is sure to mesmerize your guests. I am excited to have discovered edible gold of this high standard, and I hope you will like it, too 🙂
