Doesn’t this cake look beautiful? To me, it certainly does. It is one of the many cakes presented by Cake Boss Buddy Valastro’s team at the 2015 International Home + Housewares Show. With a newborn in the house, I haven’t baked a cake in ages – and as for “real” food, my idea of perfection is anything you can throw into the slow cooker and leave it there to cook for hours on end. Nowadays I don’t have the time to do much in the kitchen, and I feel hopeless and lack the energy to follow complicated recipes. I definitely need help, excitement, and borrowed inspiration. Going to this year’s International Home + Housewares Show was just what I needed. With so many delightful cakes to admire and so much novelty to absorb, who wouldn’t feel inspired? 🙂
The cake decorating stands were my first port of call at this year’s show (blame it on the uncontrollable sugar cravings I’ve been experiencing!). The silicone cake molds are definitely in fashion, and I made a mental note to get some myself and to experiment with them in the kitchen. I own a variety of cake pans, but no silicone molds, and I also have little left in terms of cake decorating supplies. It’s time for me to update my kitchen, that’s for sure!
This year’s Home + Housewares Show hosted thousands of exhibitors from all around the world, and the many sections of the show were equally exciting. From tableware and cutlery to bath, cleaning and home organization, from seasonal and home decor to appliances and healthcare products, there was a lot to see, learn and explore. Covering this huge show while sleep deprived proved to be a little bit of a challenge for me. Still, I had a great time, met old friends, and made some new ones. Moreover, just like last year, I got the chance to talk to many local and national producers and to taste a variety of amazing foods and drinks, which made the foodie in me very happy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this year’s Home + Housewares Show and I can’t wait for next year’s edition. In the meantime, I plan to slowly find my way back into the kitchen with regained passion and newly found energy. I have someone special to cook for – my daughter, even though she’s so little – and I want to make her proud. 🙂
