CLOSED Fall dinners, simplified and always delicious: Hamilton Beach Set ‘N Forget slow cooker review and giveaway

shared by MickyN | 63 Comments

Update: This giveaway is closed.

As I enter the third trimester of my pregnancy, things are getting rather complicated and difficult to handle both at work and at home: my back hurts, leg cramps are “killing” me, I’m not as fast as I used to be, and I get tired easily. Cooking looks more and more like a chore, and I find it difficult to focus. After a busy day at work, I lack the energy to do even the simplest tasks, and lying on the sofa is my idea of bliss. I need all the help I can get, especially when it comes to cooking.

Thankfully, Hamilton Beach have recently contacted me and have given me the chance to test their Set ‘N Forget 6 quart programmable slow cooker. This opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time! I tested the slow cooker for a good few weeks, and now I’m hooked. 🙂

I can clearly see the advantages of using a slow cooker: the food requires little preparation, you are no longer “glued” to the stove or the oven, and the overall cooking process becomes very convenient and stress-free. You get the chance to spend more time with your family and to share some delicious meals, which is great!

The Hamilton Beach Set ‘N Forget 6 qt. programmable slow cooker offers 3 cooking modes: Program, Probe and Manual. The smart heat distribution cooks food evenly and consistently, while the specially designed handles make carrying heavy meals easier. I found this slow cooker to be very user-friendly and travel-friendly – plus, I also thought it looked slick!

As part of me testing the Hamilton Beach slow cooker I decided to cook something light for us to eat as a Sunday lunch, so I made pork chops with fresh veggies. As you know by now, I am a big fan of bell peppers, so I used quite a few. This dish is easy to make, nutritious, and utterly delicious!

Ingredients

6 boneless pork chops

6 bell peppers of various colors

2 lbs potatoes

2 large carrots

1 medium red onion

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley for decoration

Wash the potatoes, cut them in half lengthwise, and place them at the bottom of the slow cooker. Peel the carrots, slice them into rounds approximately 1/2in thick, and place them on top of the potatoes. Slice the peppers lengthwise into 1/2in wide strips and place them over the carrots. Add the onion which has been peeled and cut into chunks. Sprinkle salt and pepper over the vegetables. Place the pork chops on top of them and sprinkle more salt and pepper. For this recipe I used the Probe Mode, the High setting, and I set the temperature to 160F. I pressed the “Enter” button and let the slow cooker work its magic over the next few hours. When the pork chops were done the slow cooker switched to the Warm setting, which kept the dish at the perfect temperature until ready to serve. I just love this feature!

Serve the pork chops on a bed of potatoes, with a generous helping of bell peppers and carrots and decorated with fresh chopped parsley. The pure flavors and enticing aroma of this dish will conquer your senses and will leave you wanting more!

I was very happy with this Hamilton Beach product, and now I’m ready to spread the slow cooker cheer around 🙂 To celebrate fall cooking and the inspirational abundance of produce currently on the market, Hamilton Beach is offering Chicago Loves Panini readers the chance to win one Set ‘N Forget 6 qt. programmable slow cooker.

To enter the giveaway, leave a comment on this post and answer the following question: What dish would you like to make in the Hamilton Beach slow cooker?

Giveaway open to US residents only. One entry per person. Deadline for entries is 6PM central time on October 25th, 2014. One winner will be chosen on or around October 26th, 2014 by using a random number generator and will have 72 hours to respond to the winner notification email. I will pick an alternative winner if the original winner does not contact me 72 hours after receipt of the winner notification email.

Good luck!
