My review of the 2016 Healthy & Natural Show: I came, I sampled, I learned

What’s in the picture above? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a bunch of mangosteens πŸ™‚ This is one of the fruits I tried, for the first time ever, at the Healthy and Natural Show, which recently took place at Chicago’s Navy Pier. After weeks and weeks of eating poorly and drinking way too much coffee, I was looking forward to this event, which coincided with the end of the spring school term. I really need help to get back on the healthy eating track. I need wholesome fruits and veggies, inspiration, and new discoveries – so when I heard about this new show held in Chicago, I knew this was the place for me to be. πŸ™‚ Keep Reading

My review of this year’s International Home + Housewares Show: from spiralizers to soap nuts to coffee, oh my!

The International Home + Housewares Show? Yes, please! I always enjoy attending the Show, and this year made no exception. Held in Chicago every spring, the International Home + Housewares Show brings together thousands of exhibitors from around the world, all eager to display their latest housewares products, to secure deals and to network. This is the place to be if you want to build or to consolidate your brand, to attract potential customers or to find out all about “the latest and greatest” industry trends.

To be honest, I couldn’t wait for the Show. Getting out of my stressful routine seemed like a blessing, and I was looking forward to discovering new kitchen gadgets, sampling good food, meeting old friends – and making new ones. πŸ™‚

My review of this year’s International Home + Housewares Show: Sweet is the way to go!

Doesn’t this cake look beautiful? To me, it certainly does. It is one of the many cakes presented by Cake Boss Buddy Valastro’s team at the 2015 International Home + Housewares Show. With a newborn in the house, I haven’t baked a cake in ages – and as for “real” food, my idea of perfection is anything you can throw into the slow cooker and leave it there to cook for hours on end. Nowadays I don’t have the time to do much in the kitchen, and I feel hopeless and lack the energy to follow complicated recipes. I definitely need help, excitement, and borrowed inspiration. Going to this year’s International Home + Housewares Show was just what I needed. With so many delightful cakes to admire and so much novelty to absorb, who wouldn’t feel inspired? πŸ™‚

There’s a new kind of Potbelly sandwiches in town: the flats!

Food and restaurant reviews are a feature recently added to this blog, and it’s one which I enjoy a lot. I like to visit Chicago eating spots (be they well-established or newly opened) and to discover innovative and exciting menu items, made with care and with the freshest ingredients. And when these new items are sandwiches or panini – that’s even better. πŸ™‚ This is why I was very excited when Potbelly invited me and other fellow food bloggers to try out their flat sandwiches, which are available in stores starting this week.Β  Keep Reading

My review of TÊTE Charcuterie: Tradition and innovation come together to create meaty deliciousness

UPDATE: This restaurant has closed.

Succulent crispy pork belly. Flavorful mortadella, hams and pΓ’tΓ©s. An array of fresh and smoked sausages, served with house-made pickles and mustard. They were fresh, made from local ingredients, and seasoned to perfection. I tried them all last Saturday, when myself and other Chicago food bloggersΒ were invited to attend the grand opening ofΒ TÊTE Charcuterie, which is located in Chicago’s historic meatpacking district. Time for St. Patrick’s Day and for the International Home + Housewares Show!

It was a beautiful Saturday morning on the bank of the Chicago River, freshly dyed green to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. I’d waited for warm weather for so long, and now, at last, spring was in town to stay – or so I hoped for, anyway. I left my heavy winter coat at home and drove downtown to take pictures of the river and to enjoy its beauty in the sunshine.Β

I also went downtown because I wanted to visit the 2014 International Home + Housewares Show at the McCormick Place. Hamilton Beach invited myself and other fellow Chicago food bloggers to attend, and I happily accepted their invitation. Going out to enjoy the warm spring weather and getting the chance to see the latest consumer product innovationsΒ  sounded like a great way to spend my Saturday. Keep Reading
